RTOOT
PLAYERS RETREAT
RTOOT players should check this page
for new developments from time to time. Latest changes 14 November
include the revised concert program (still subject to change) and
orchestration and player assignments, with a couple of most welcome
new members.
Regular
Rehearsals
Regular rehearsals are held at Hatcher Grove Missionary Baptist
Church, 3400 Davis Drive, in
Morrisville. The choice of this location, which is neither in
Durham, Raleigh, or Chapel Hill, is to emphasize the fact that the
Really Terrible Orchestra Of the Triangle (RTOOT) is truly a
Triangle-wide cultural gem. Rehearsals begin at 3:00 sharp, so
please be in your place and warmed up for tuning at that
time.
Hatcher Grove Missionary Baptist Church is a very smart,
progressive church that decided to retain the wonderfully charming
Old-Southern name. The Hatcher family owned most of the land around
that Morrisville-Cary area and hence the name. We have use of the
multipurpose room, which is about like a small gymnasium.
Rules? there are no rules. But please
be on time, arriving early enough so as to be in place and warmed
up by 3:00 tuning. There is no “punishment” for being late, but you
are adversely affecting the entire ensemble and your fellow
musicians. Likewise there is no punishment for missing a rehearsal,
but I would like to know about your absence via email as soon as
you know you will have to miss a rehearsal, or at the latest as a
response to the rehearsal order email (see next paragraph). Again,
any absence will affect us all.
Each week I will send an email showing the order of rehearsal so
that, for example, if you play only in the Marche Slave and The
Blue Danube, you may leave after we have rehearsed those pieces.
Strings, bless their hearts, of course will always stay until the
bitter (or Terrible) end, because they play on everythin and that’s
just what strings do in an orchestra. Otherwise, we’d be the Really
Terrible Band Of the Triangle (RTBOT) and it doesn’t have the same
panache ....
Performances
Our first
performance is scheduled for Wednesday, 10 December in the
auditorium of Hill Hall (Music Building) on the UNC Campus. Dress
rehearsal will be the night before, Tuesday, 9 December in the same
location. We are planning a gala black-tie reception in the Rotunda
after the concert. Certainly it would be out of character for The
Really Terrible Orchestra Of the Triangle (RTOOT) to dictate
concert attire, but My Strow Hobgood suggests black tie for the men
and extremely sparkly gowns of all colours of the rainbow for the
women.
The Dress Rehearsal will be 7:00-9:00. The Concert will be at 8:00
PM, but you must be in place for warmup at 6:45.
Please consult the “Concert Schedule” page for the program to be
presented at our inaugural concert.
Concerts will also be presented in Raleigh and Durham. The
tentative
dates are late spring 2009 for
Raleigh and early summer 2009 for Durham.
